Star's newer homes are big, and their roofs are broad truss systems at moderate pitch with a farmhouse gable or two. Pitch rarely adds harness work here; area does. A generous-lot Star home often carries more squares than a Boise home of the same bedroom count, and the estimator measures that surface from LiDAR rather than guessing from the floor plan.
Nearly every Star roof is its first, a single layer of 25-year architectural shingle from the mid-2000s boom or later. Tear-off is the simplest kind. The original townsite around Star Town Plaza is the small exception, where older ranches may carry a second layer that Idaho code says must come off.
OSB on trusses is the Star standard, so decking seldom appears on a bid beyond a few sheets. Where it does, it is moisture: the Boise River on Star's northern edge brings occasional flooding and higher humidity that grows moss on shaded slopes, and moss holds water against the sheathing along north-facing eaves.
Star reroofs are permitted through the City of Star's building program for in-city properties; parcels on the rural edges may fall to Ada or Canyon County depending on which side of the county line they sit. Star's open terrain on the Snake River plain exposes roofs to strong seasonal northwesterly winds year-round, and spring storms tracking northeast from Oregon pass over Star before they reach Eagle and Boise.
